Reflections on Things That Are Important To Me

What Books Should I Read After Reading Harry Potter And The Twilight Series?

Posted on | September 21, 2009 |

Loved the Harry Potter books and the Twilight series by Meyer. I’ve also read The Da Vinci Code and enjoyed that. If someone can give me suggestions that are similar reads to these books and are more for late teens/early 20’s readers I’d appreciate it.

    Mercedes Lackey’s Valdemar series; there are several trilogies that can be read all as a set, or separately.
    Magic’s Pawn
    Magic’s Power
    Magic’s Price
    Arrows of the Queen
    Arrow’s Flight
    Arrow’s Fall
    Mage Winds trilogy
    + lots more.

    Wow! You and I have amazingly similar tastes in books! (And by the way, congrats on being a male fan of the “Twilight” series.) I’ve read and liked all the things you have. As such, here is a suggestion for you: read the “Eragon” series, in which two sides fight to regain a peaceful world (and the world’s last dragon). There are currently three books, with a fourth on the way. They are, “Eragon,” “Eldest,” and “Brisingr.” The author is amazing; he started “Eragon” when he was 16, I think. But the movie is nothing like the book, so if you’ve seen it and were disappointed, don’t be discouraged. Another series that is good, although on a slightly younger level, is the “Pendragon” series. There are 11 of them, by D. J. MacHale, and they are all about these different worlds that make up our universe and the Travelers who go between keeping the peace. Happy reading!

    Well since you’ve read The Da Vinci Code(which I loved) you should read Angels and Demons if you haven’t already. Other books I would recommend are the Percy Jackson series, The Last Vampire trilogy by Christopher Pike, the Inkheart Trilogy by Cornelia Funke, and The Princess Bride by William Goldman(it’s pretty funny). Hope you find something you like! :-)

    As a Harry Potter and Twilight fan myself, I would suggest The Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini, or if your looking for something a bit more mature, The Dark Tower Series by Stephen King. I love both of these series! Or you can try The Southern Vampire Series by Charlaine Harris. I haven’t read this series yet but I love the show True Blood that is based on Charlaine’s books.

    I personally liked “The Last Dragon Chronicles” ( The Fire Within, Icefire, Firestar, the Fire Eternal and Dark Fire) by Chris D’Lacey;
    The Warrior Heir, Wizard heir and Dragon heir by Cinda Williams Chima;
    The Warriors series by Erin Hunter was fantastic;
    If you want another vampire read, Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead was a good book. Though it was a bit adult.
    Hope this helps!

    Keep in mind that you may or may not like what others do but here are my suggestions. ^_^ I found these to be greatly enjoyable each in their own way.
    1) Maximum ride
    2) Inkheart/spell/death
    3) Artemis Fowl (more of a fantasy for young teens but I still enjoyed it)
    4) His Dark Materials (O.o The concept of killing god was a bit… wrong… but it was still a good read.)
