What Are Some Fictional Books That Refer To History Or Is Based On History?
Posted on | November 14, 2009 |
The kind of books I’m looking for are like To Kill A Mockingbird or Moby Dick because they both have to reference to historic occurrences or historical themes. The books I’m looking for should depict accurately what happened then or it could also parallel a real person’s life. It could be a classical novel/book or a present day one, but it has to be FICTIONAL.

There is an entire genre called historical fiction that is nothing but fictional novels based around historical events. Here’s one of several enormous lists of historical fiction on the internet: http://www.historicalnovels.info/
I myself also maintain a list of personal recommendations (though it includes both fiction and nonfiction) geared towards K-12 students: http://www.squidoo.com/noorilibrarytheme…
If you need relatively accurate historical fiction, I recommend Sharon Kay Penman’s novels about medieval Britain, especially Here Be Dragons, Falls the Shadow and The Reckoning.

Go to Barnes and Noble and check out the B&N classic section that has all of the great literature. Sorry I do not remember exactly what section it’s called… but they’re all the Jane Austin books and Ivanhoe, Little Women, etc.
