Reflections on Things That Are Important To Me

What Are Good Romance And Mystery Books You’d Recommend?

Posted on | August 10, 2009 |

I’m 13 years old and I love reading. I finish books within a day when I’m really into it. Some of my favorite genres are romance, mystery, and books that have to do with people around my age or above. At the book store there are to many books to choose from. I’m a good reader and I like challenging books. I’ve read books like Pride and Prejudice. Do you have any book recommendations?

You’ll love “Persuasion”, if you haven’t already read it.
You may like to try Victoria Holt’s books. Theyr’e out of print now but they are all gothic mysteries with a dash of romance, or romances with a dash of mystery, whichever way you see them. You can get them on ebay.
I think you may like Philip Pullman’s Sally Lockhart series. The first one is “The Ruby in the Smoke” and the second is “The Shadow of the North”. I can’t remember the names of the other two. You can get them in any bookstore.
Then there is Mary Stewart . Again out of print but available on ebay.
For books featuring people of your age, try Anthony Horowitz. There are 7 Alex Rider books, and several about the Diamond Brothers. The DB books are humorous. The same cannot be said for Alex Rider, but both series are exciting and you can’t help liking the main characters, which is important in a book. Another Anthony H series is the Power of Five books. They have a supernatural twist but are just as exciting as Alex Rider. Only 3 have been written so far: Ravensgate, Evil Star and Nightriser.

Romance huh? Twilight is perfect for you. Its fantasy, romance, and suspensful/action alll at once. Its my fave book ^^
The Uglies series is a sorta kinda a mystery (figuring out what happened to the Prettie’s or w/e) and a romance, because of Tally’s love traingle.
Vampire Diaries is romance, sorta a mystery, and actionish (lol) Its really good…
Nancy Drew is always mystery, and those books are ok…
See, most books I know are romance, because I really like to read about that, lol, with some kind of action involved. Some other just romance ones I like are by Nicholas Sparks, which would be
    At First Sight
    The Notebook
    The Rescue
    A Bend In The Road
Thats really all I will reccomend now…

My favs are the series that start with Flowers in the Attic by V.C. Andrews. She has several book series that are like 6 books long and they are connected within one series. The Flowers in the Attic series has like 6 or 7 books including a prequel. Definitely suspenseful and has romance but not in a pride and prejudice way.

Harry Potter series are the best!
Wildwood Dancing & Cybeles Secret by Juliet Marillier are both romance and mystery. Plus theyre rather good too!
The ‘Inheritance Cycle’ which is Eragon & Eldest with 2 more books to come. They are extremely good!
Also Inheart trilogy by Cornelia Funke, with 2 books out already - Inkheart & Inkspell. Inkdeath comes out in October.
Yeah, theyre all really good books!
    Hope I`m a help.

The Kushiel series by Jacqueline Carey may be a little to mature for you (lots of explicit material), but they are great books! They are more like epic love stories with a snippits of action and mystery around every corner. My favorite by far!

    Romance:
The Twilight series By Stephanie Meyer
Sense & Sensibility By Jane Austen (I’ve only seen the movie with Hugh Grant and I fell in love with it. And surely, I’m willing to bet that the book is much much better)
    The Notebook
    Mystery:
(I don’t know many good mystery novels.. except the really really classical ones)
Sherlock Holmes by Sir Author Conan Doyle (an obvious choice)
The Extraordinary Adventures of Arsene Lupin by Maurice LeBlanc (though it is rather rare to find at bookstores. You can read this online somewhere….)

Twilight is the best book that I have ever read. It’s a great book. I’ve read Twilight, New Moon ( Twilight’s sequel), and the thhird book, Eclipse. Once I read them all, I got my friends hooked, especially Brooke. She liked them so much, she convinced her mom to read them! And she, too, thought they were fantastic. Now we’re all waiting for the fourth book, Breaking dawn to come out on August 2nd and for the Twilight movie, it comes out on December 12th. I’m sure you’ll like these books.
