club dj impression
Im a club DJ in Dallas, this CD is by far one of the best I’ve come across this year. It makes my job so easy…put on Disc 2 and go have cocktails….

Better the more you listen
This CD gets better after the second or third time through when you start learning the songs. I would put this on in the background at a party. Good car listening

After Ultra Dance 08 Ultra Records knew they had to release something good. They did!

While disc 1 of this CD does somewhat follow Ultra’s rule of putting commercial hit remixes on disc 1 and more underground obscure stuff on disc 2, even disc 1 has a fair amount of surprises. While many of the songs run between 3-5 minutes, the real treat is that Ultra seemed to realize WHICH unreleased mixes would be wanted in the longest versions, and we get them, including Rihanna, Ciara, and Shiny Toy Guns. Perhaps a few more big hits that were not released on CD single would have been a bonus, but as it is, this blend of mostly electro dance vibes is refreshing.
CD1
1. calabria…enur (3:17) (big club song, but with its horn riff, it’s a real throwback to early 90s house)
2. harder better faster stronger…daft punk (3:15) (funky electro with electronic voice)
3. umbrella (jody den broeder mix)…rihanna (8:30) (great to have more than 8 minutes of this mix, but the original is so perfect that a dance remix just can’t top it)
4. say it right (peter rauhofer mix)…nelly furtado (6:46) (cool to have this hardhouse mix, but this song just isn’t very dance mix friendly)
5. like a boy (jonathan peters mix)…ciara (6:45) (awesome to have over 6 minutes of this mix of the Ciara track)
6. uninvited…freemasons (8:08) (Nothing compares to the bootleg remix of the original Alanis version years back when it was popular)
7. amazing (thin white duke mix)…seal (6:23) (Nice mellow dance mix, but Seal’s vocals are grating)
8. baby when the light (fred riester & david guetta mix)…david guetta (6:36) (hard electro pop mix, but loses much of the female vocal track)
9. this time (klaas mix)…dj Antoine (5:15) (hot and hard electro house with male vocal and guitar samples)
10. I found u (remode mix)…axwell (5:44) (dubby track with many bleeps and blips. Boring)
11. carpe noctum…tiesto (5:09) (kind of hollow and uninspired synth track by Tiesto)
12. now you’re gone…basshunter (3:16) (male vocal, with a clunky electro beat and some euro trance synths. Not bad, but very commercial)
CD2
1. freedom to love…lexter (4:14) (Ultra loves starting disc 2 with an uplifting house track with rasta vocals)
2. rise up…yves larock (4:58) (more of the trend from track 1)
3. toca’s miracle (Richard Durand mix)…fragma (4:04) (the original mix is better. This is very tribal and the vocal loses something as a result)
4. Speed Up…funkerman (4:58) (catchy electro house with male vocal–reminds me of Mika or Scissor Sisters)
5. sensual…phonojaxx & costi Costi (5:07) (What a treasure. A throbbing electro house track with female vocal)
6. keep on rising…ian carey (5:41) (another catchy female vocal dance track)
7. I want your soul (tv rock mix)…armand van helden (Not the first dance mix this song has been on. Armand blends old skool female freestyle with hard electro beats)
8. ride like the wind (klaas mix)…michael mind (4:58) (Retro fun with this Christopher Cross classic going electro pop)
9. D.A.N.C.E (mistrkrft mix)…Justice (4:27) (Chanting female vocals and driving guitar riffs set to a dance beat. Pretty hot)
10. You Are The One (Gabriel & Dresden Unplugged mix)…Shiny Toy Guns (8:59) (The ultimate reason to buy this disc. This unreleased mix of this fantastic retro eighties synth dance track retains the magic of the band’s original mix)
11. anthem (nic chagali mix)…filo & peri (8:58) (totally hypnotic song that blends floaty male vocal with trance synths and some electro beats)
12. hustle up…John Dahlback (4:43) (predominantly non-vocal track that fuses trance synths and hard electro house beats and bass)

I play “Ride Like The Wind” and “Uninvited” like it was going out of style. This is awesome workout and driving music. Highly recommended. Glad that a friend recommended it.

I love all the Ultra Dance cd’s, mind you some more than others, but I love the different mixes.
