When you cruise to the No. 1 seed, it’s hard to find a way to upset your fans. Yet coach Jim Caldwell found a way to do just that. The Indianapolis Colts were 14-0 a month ago, playing for a shot at history and the distinction of being the only team to finish the season 19-0, but nothing else. Caldwell decided not to fully pursue the undefeated season, instead resting his starters in the second half of a close game in Week 16.

The Colts predictably went on to lose that game to a team that barely squeaked into the playoffs, beat Cincinnati in Week 17 and in the Wild Card round, then upset San Diego to set up a rematch in Indianapolis. That team is — of course — the New York Jets.
